Be fair 13th, we should all ask questions of prospective MPs when they knock on our doors wanting our vote. It's not only the LibDems that are pointless though - depending where you live, the Cons are also pointless. I'm waiting for the UKIP manifesto before I decide but I have a soft spot for the Libertarians too - I'm just worried they don't have the public profile to attract sufficient votes and upset the apple cart in a way that UKIP might.
Perhaps, I am completely disillusioned with all parties right now. But it seems that the Libdems are just so useless they do not do anything - they are like a cancer if you will, feeding of the "healthy" (haha the Irony) body that represents British politics. If there is a hung parliament it will benefit them but that is not of their own making. People are attracted to the Tories and Labour (god knows why) because of what they say but I can not find a single reason for voting LibDems, they do not represent anything.
They say they are liberals yet they vote with the government when it comes to curtailing civil liberties.
They say they want an in/out referendum on the EU yet they vote with the government when it comes to having a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty - the de facto referendum on the issue.
The libdems were the ones to stage a walk-out over the Lisbon debate - thoroughly discredited. I wouldn't waste your breath on them if I were you. Their raison d'etre, like the two main parties, is their self-belief: the notion that we can't possibly understand and therefore don't know anything. Two fingers to Lib/Lab & Con.
In the Palace of Westminster, exercised on behalf of elected representatives of the people. Democracy is not a spectator sport.
1971 FCO 30/104
"The transfer of major executive responsibilities to the bureaucratic Commission in Brussels will exacerbate popular feeling of alienation from government. To counter this feeling, strengthened local and regional democratic processes… and effective Community regional economic and social policies will be essential… there would be a major responsibility on HM Government and on all political parties not to exacerbate public concern by attributing unpopular policies to the remote and unmanageable workings of the Community."
NOTE: These are not links provided to be either anti-Muslim or antisemitic they are simply provided as a remembrance to the once proud maxim 'Every Man is Equal Before the Law.'

What is their raison d'etre?!
