Scottish Independence implies English Independence

This is from the European Communities Act 1972, the bill with which Edward Heath, then PM, took the United Kingdom of Great Britain into the European Economic Community (EEC) as it was then known, and which has now transmogrified into the European Union.

This is from the introductory text from the above mentioned bill
An Act to make provision in connection with the enlargement of the European Communities to include the United Kingdom, together with (for certain purposes) the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man and Gibraltar.
You will notice my emphasis in bold. As has most likely struck most other ardent euro-withdrawalists, like myself, today's election outcome in Scotland puts the break-up of the United Kingdom back on the table.

If the United Kingdom ceases to exists as a political and sovereign entity then its commitment to the international acts and agreements signed in its name must be rendered moot, since there is no longer an entity in existence which can honour the accords within those agreements.

If Scotland breaks up the union we have one almighty constitutional crisis on our hands. Creating (or re-establishing) countries is usually seen as the business of Africa, but we are not South Sudan. This is and probably will continue to be a nation which, however much the socialists don't want it, shapes the events of the world to some extent. You will need to be a fantastic cynic or an unchangeable pessimist to deny this. If you still do then let me give you two events; Olympics 2012 and the Libyan crisis.

Moving on, if the United Kingdom is left to the books of history then England's membership of the EU will have to re-evaluated, it will have to be put to a new referendum. For there is no way that any politician could survive, today, signing up England to the EU. It simply is political suicide and they all know that as do we. For all Milliband's faults I think he is clever enough to realise that this would be a vote winner if actively put into their manifesto. And if they do put it into their manifesto so would every other party.

Hence it would appear, that the EU's policy of breaking up the UK (and that is their policy - Tony Blair did not grant Scotland devolution out of his good-natured heart) will lead to the EU losing one of its biggest sponsors namely England. One must not be too surprised at this stupendous policy; this is after all the EU. They employ only the greatest of fools and the most naive of politicians.

If only the Scottish RACE had the balls to vote for independence.
Maybe it's time for the Scottish diaspora to return to their country of origin (every effin' one of them) and partake of the referendum (another one for the Scots)on independence.
Fat chance.

Surely, if the break up of the UK is to be decided, it should be by a referendum of all members of the UK, not only the Scots. Opinion polls show that only about 30% of Scots want independance. I would be very interested to see the figures of how many English would like to get rid of the Scots.

eddyh,

There has been a few of those polls actually, just do a google search. It is rather astonishing really; most english want to kick out the Scots :D

Rather funny really, well, until they realise that their socialist little utopia will crumble under its own contradiction once English tax money is withdrawn.

North sea oil you say? Common off it...

Seems to me that this section of scotshood is digging its own grave.

Perhaps that's why Cameron never actually says "England?"

£2 Billion Scotch Whisky industry + alcohol tax, Oil it belongs to Scotland under International Law as it falls in Scottish Territorial water's. So Scotland does not need your fucking tax money!

Dear Anonymous, I do like to hear comments from the other side as well so thank you.

The problem is that Scotland does need the "fucking tax money" as you so poignantly put it. That oil is quickly disappearing and what is more, that industry alone will not sustain the tiny little dominion that is Scotland. If they people do not work and do not have the skills (most engineers are English who work for BP and Shell etcetera, not scottish) to work then they will not work on those oil fields. And what is the grand plan exactly? Are you going to tax the oil companies into oblivion and expect them to stay put whilst you reap the profits of their hard work through taxes? Have you little or no understanding of business?

By your logic every scottish person would have to drink more than their body weight in order for the system to function with proceeds from the whisky industry and alcohol tax.

So no, you cannot survive alone because Scotland is perhaps the most unproductive socialist shit hole on this planet. Fantastic scenery but shit politics through and through.

Sometimes I think it would be quite nice for Scotland to sod off and how bitter-sweet the knowledge of our correct analysis would be. But then I remember that there are other people in Scotland, besides from the complete fools like yourself, who actually do need help.

If Scotland gains its independence it would cease to be a member of EU it would then have to reapply for membership. Would Spain for instance agree to this as it has its problems with the Basques?

So, if the obnoxious throng of kilted xenophobes north of the border vote for "independence", thus replacing English oversight (and funding) of their internal affairs by more intrusive interference from a European political elite who seem to have been able to cast off the more unpalatable parts of the democratic process, we in England might have a chance to extricate ourselves from Europe.

Scotland the Brave I say. The sooner they gain full independence, the better.

Boris Yeltsin took the RFSSR out of the USSR just as removing England from the United Kingdom would leave the Celts in the EU but England could cease to pay the bills
